Here Comes the Bride!

This MUA works mainly in television and film and I use certain products from many different cosmetic lines that I know work under hot lights, on HD cameras and last through very long hours on the set.

I am fortunate to have many friends that are also Pro makeup artists and every so often they contribute to In My Professional Opinion by writing about their specialty. My girlfriend, Cathi Singh, is a Smashbox Pro Artist and she has found that Smashbox product work great in all genres of our industry. However, Cathi's specialty is Bridal Makeup and she was kind enough to share with our readers which Smashbox products really shine bright on that very special day!

Before you read Cathi’s post, let's take a little walk down Smashbox memory lane...

Dean and Davis Factor started in the beauty industry in 1991 by founding Smashbox Studios, which is a state-of-the-art production facility. If the name “Factor” sounds familiar to you, well it should, these two brothers are the great-grandsons of makeup legend Max Factor!

The studio became home to many famous photographers, models, entertainers, fashion magazines and advertising agencies. Located in several areas throughout Southern California, you would be amazed at how many iconic magazine covers have been shot at these studios!

From Drew to Charlize, Gisele, Madonna, the Smashbox Studio has seen them all and more importantly, the studio has been privy to the makeup artists who cater to those celebrities! This means all those insider beauty secrets and trends were being shared with Dean and Davis, who were frequently asked to create a makeup line!

In 1996 the brothers decided to once again combined their talents and created Smashbox Studio Cosmetics and join the family legacy on their own terms. While Max Factor's product was born from the era of the golden cinema, Smasbox Cosmetics was created from a photography perspective and by watching the trends on the runway. Today, it is a very fashionable yet wearable line for daily use that can be found on beauty counters around the globe!

Now on with the show...keep reading to discover Cathi's Smashbox product favorites that will make your wedding day more beautiful then ever...

Greetings Pro Readers!!

I am so proud to represent such an innovative and fashion forward cosmetic line that was designed for photography. With the added benefits of vitamins, antioxidants and hydrating formulas, it’s the perfect medium to enhance a beautiful, blushing bride!

Here are some of my favorite products to use for brides and the bridal party:

Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light: this is a must! This primer is 60% water based so it won’t feel oily or heavy. It acts as a physical barrier between your skin and makeup and creates an even surface for your foundation to glide over. It also gives your makeup all day lasting power. Taking this step to prepare the face actually helps to use less foundation as it’s not going to be absorbed into the face. Money Saver!!

High-Definition Healthy FX Foundation: I love the way this medium coverage foundation glides over every skin tone leaving a healthy glow that never looks heavy. A lot of my clients don’t feel like they’re wearing anything at all! It has a light diffusing and firming technology that gives it a fresh dewiness but is still extremely buildable. There is also a time-released moisturizer so the bride will look fresh-faced and luminous throughout the day- talk about longevity! And it’s hi-def ready- so say hello to that close-up!!

Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder: this is, by far, my favorite product right now! It is the first powder I have ever used that doesn’t look or feel cakey and will NOT settle into fine lines, especially concerning the eye area. It has 11 amino acids, 48 minerals, antioxidants and an anti-aging peptide, so it’s actually benefiting your skin while making you look gorgeous and younger! I love the diffused, airbrushed effect it gives to the skin and in 10 minutes, it reduces the appearance of fine lines! It’s seriously my secret weapon in my kit!

Soft Lights Cheek Color- in Tint: one of the most versatile products in my kit. Using a fan brush, I apply a light wash to the high planes of the face, achieving a gorgeous rosy gold glow. It also breathes new life into any matte blush by adding just a touch of shimmer. I like to apply it to the décolletage- the gold creates a radiant light- Guaranteed to catch the groom’s attention!!

Eye shadows: these are some of my favorite and most used eye shadows. I love to add a pop of Cabernet in the outer contour of the eyes – it’s such a sultry, velvety color.
Cabernet
Bliss
Shell
Honey
Brazilian Bronze
Rapture

Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner: gel liner must have been created with brides in mind! It is extremely long-lasting and waterproof- tough enough for those emotional moments. It dries in 60 seconds, so it’s ideal for lining the inner rim of the eye- even on a fidgety client! I like to apply the black liner on the top and use the bronze color to line the inner rim. It really opens up the eyes.

TIPS AND TRICKS:
Post ceremony, add a little more black liner, and using double ended smudger brush #20 (aka the perfect smoky eye brush) smudge the line to create a smoldering hot look that is ready to party at the reception!
